Some people are born with a high sensitivity toward other people, but that is only about 20% of the population. These people seem to be tuned into other people’s feelings automatically without any special training. They are especially sensitive to outside vibrations coming into their unconscious mind. The rest of us usually need some kind of training to be able to feel these outside vibrations and to understand how others feel.
How you interact with others is indicative of how you understand their feelings. You can never know how someone feels until you can walk a few miles in their shoes. Learning to put yourself in the life of others is the first step in becoming more sensitive to them.
One of the first things you need to do is to talk and then really listen to what the other person is saying. This sharing is much like a psychotherapy group session and can go a long ways toward developing sensitivity to others. This can be done in either a formal setting with a moderator or simply talking one-on-one. The most important part of the whole process is to listen with empathy to what the other person is sharing.
What purpose does becoming more sensitive to others serve? For one thing, it will open new doors of friendship for you. When others realize that you are sensitive to their feeling, they will often come to you for advice and help. There is no greater feeling than to realize that you have helped someone solve a problem. Being sensitive will open many doors to a new life.
