There is a book written by author Elaine Aron, which is about sensitivity in children, adults and people in love and how it has an influence on their lives. The scientific term is called SPS (Sensory-Processing Sensitivity.) This book has proven to be very helpful to those who carry this trait in helping them to know more about it and learn from it. In this book, one can learn how this trait has been mislabeled in the past, often describing these type of people as inhibited, neurotic or introverted, but the fact of the matter is that it has been greatly misunderstood.
A highly sensitive person can be described as one who has an augmented awareness to their surroundings, whether it be in the area of touch, taste, sight, sound or smell. Many who carry this trait seek comfort and solace in nature or darkened areas. Highly sensitive people have been known to be very creative, dedicated and demonstrate extreme care about minute details. They are affected by other people’s moods. As children, they were labeled as shy or timid.
There are three phases in the opportunity to move forward as being qualified as a highly sensitive person. The first one is awareness. Awareness will broaden and enlighten the potential for growth in this area. The second one is acceptance. Accepting this gift helps you move forward, letting you take advantage of its genuine privileges. Finally, take joyful action and let your great vision enrich those around you.
